Before you leave, the fortune teller reminds you that the future is never set in stone.― Erin Morgenstern, The Night Circus
Welcome to the Fortune Teller’s Den!
As the owner of the Fortune Teller’s Den, I’ve helped countless souls here over the years, guiding them with tarot readings. But something dark stirs in this place of mysticism. Strange shadows lurk in candlelight, and I hear whispers from the velvet curtains late at night.
Last night, a woman came seeking answers. As I laid out the cards, a chill crept up my spine. The Tower, Death, Devil – a terrible fate awaited her. She fled in tears as thunder shook the fog-shrouded streets.
After closing, I cleaned among the incense smoke and glittering trinkets. From the back room came a noise like tortured screaming. I threw open the door to find only empty chairs circled round a Ouija board, planchette spelling out a haunting message.
Now after sunset, dark shapes seem to congregate outside, pressed against grimy windows, eager to be let in. I dart between the racks of crystals and herbs, pursued by glimpses of twisted limbs and sightless eyes.
The curtains part to reveal my cards strewn in a mangled pile. I see too late the terrible portent spelled out in their gruesome arrangement. Some mysteries were never meant to be uncovered, and in this den of divination, the future has finally come knocking to collect.
